Bodysonic

You can hear it coming behind you. Vibrations rumble your fingers on the steering wheel before the car actually pulls up next to you at the stop light. The thump of their music overtakes the flow of Rick Astley’s sweet soulful voice flowing through your radio. You are slightly annoyed, but also impressed!
Cars with big sound systems are pretty common these days, but they weren’t back in 1984 when Nissan released the Bodysonic Amplifier as a part of the 50th Anniversary edition of the 300ZX. The system consisted of a set of four speakers built into the seat right under your tush, and another set of four in the back of your seat.

The system was made complete by a set of toggles used to control the intensity of the vibrations for each set of speakers. Normally, attaining that kind of gut-vibrating sound would require a few subwoofers, which take up a large amount of cargo space, something sports cars like the 300zx didn’t have much of. The system was genius in terms of saving space, as well as really allowing you to “feel” the music!
