Is it an all-new model or an update?
Many customers ask if the 2026 Frontier is a fresh model or an updated version. It's the latest iteration of the third-generation midsize pickup first launched in 2022. It’s built on a rugged body-on-frame architecture and brings a host of refinements like a new Dark Armor package and Drive Mode Selector.
What's new compared to the 2025?
One of the most notable updates is the Drive Mode Selector on SV 4×4 and PRO-4X trims, with five settings: Rock, Sand, On-Road, Mud, and Hill Descent Control. Comfort upgrades were also added, with the PRO and SV trims now coming standard with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote engine start, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat.
How is the engine and performance?
Every Frontier is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine producing 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. RWD is standard, and 4WD with low-range gearing is optional.
What's the fuel economy?
This truck delivers a maximum EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 21 MPG combined1. In 4WD configurations, the combined MPG comes in at 18 or 19 combined1, depending on the trim level.
How good is it for towing and hauling?
The Frontier delivers robust towing and payload capacities suited for most medium-duty tasks, including towing trailers, boats, or work equipment, with a bed designed for easy loading. Its maximum towing capacity is 7,150 lbs.2, while its peak payload rating is 1,590 lbs.3
What is the Dark Armor Package?
Available exclusively on the SV trim, the Dark Armor Package adds a stealthy, blacked-out look with 17-inch black alloy wheels, darkened mirror caps, grille, and exterior badging that’ll help it turn heads when you pull into Fischer Park. Inside, it features a black headliner and dark trim accents, elevating the truck's aggressive aesthetic.

Nissan added a big 12.3-inch touchscreen4 on all but the base trim level. The system integrates seamlessly with standard Apple CarPlay®5 and Android Auto™6 compatibility, and off-road-focused trims like the PRO-4X R add specialized gauges that monitor pitch, roll, 4x4 engagement, and differential lock status.
